Details of the June 11 Senate hearing on federal whistleblower protection legislation.

Hearing: S.372 – The Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act

When: June 11, 2009 at 2:30pm (EST)

Where: Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 342

What: The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Oversight of
Government Management Subcommittee will hold a hearing to examine problems with the current system of protections for federal employee whistleblowers and the pending Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2009 (S. 372). The hearing will also address differences between S. 372 and the House companion bill (H.R. 1507)

How MISC Members Can Help: Similar to the recent May House hearing, this is a pivotal
event in our long crusade to secure whistleblower rights for federal employees. All members of the whistleblower community are encouraged to attend Thursday’s hearing. Two members of the coalition, Danielle Brian of Project On Government Oversight, and Tom Devine of the Government Accountability Project, will provide subject expert testimony. They will testify why S. 372 must include access to jury trials and coverage of national security employees, to match the credibility of the House’s legislation as an effective reform to the badly gutted Whistleblower Protection Act.

Witness List:
Mr. Rajesh De , Deputy Assistant Attorney General , Office of Legal Policy, U.S. Department of Justice
Mr. William L. Bransford , General Counsel , Senior Executives Association
Ms. Danielle Brian , Executive Director , Project on Government Oversight
Mr. Thomas Devine , Legal Director , Government Accountability Projec
Mr. Robert G. Vaughn , Professor of Law , Washington College of Law, American University

Don’t fret if you can’t attend in person! Live coverage will be available on the Committee’s website. Click here to view

Whistleblower protections are an important tool for reducing corruption and making government more cost effective. I hope everyone calls their senators to urge passing the strong protections recommended by the MIS Coalition.
